  • 6 large apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt for the crust.
  3. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Press half of the mixture into a greased baking pan.
  5. In another bowl, mix apples, cinnamon, brown sugar, lemon juice, nutmeg, and cornstarch.
  6. Spread the apple mixture over the crust in the pan.
  7. Top with the remaining crust mixture.
  8. Brush the top with the beaten egg.
  9. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Let cool before slicing.
